This Biomass Press Installation design project was the result of a CleanBC study PE Tech completed in 2021. The study identified the opportunity to design a new mechanical hog drying process and replace the existing bark press line with six new biomass presses. The design included replacing four of the existing presses and adding two additional presses to the process. Working in a stage gate sequence, the process design determined three key phases for success of this project. The first phase focused on preparing the building for the installation and included a building extension, MCC upgrade, and pre-requisite work to prepare the conveyors, scaling screens, and grinder and associated chutes. The second phase focused on the addition of the two new presses and required relocation of the existing hydraulic power units. The third phase included the design for the removal and replacement of the remaining four presses.

PE Tech completed Preliminary Design for this project including finalizing the process design, sizing major mechanical and electrical equipment, designing the preliminary structural requirements for building modifications, and developing a preliminary layout of the system within the existing hog press building. In addition, PE Tech provided recommendations for Detailed Design next steps.
