In response to successful delivery of previous studies, PE Tech was asked to complete a study on new hog drying technologies for the biomass boiler at Paper Excellence. The purpose of this project was to identify GHG emission saving opportunities by reducing natural gas usage on the dual fuel power boiler through biomass mechanical dewatering. As part of this study, the team developed a baseline using existing process data and then using manufacturer specification data, they determined what a new operating scenario would be. The project recognized the opportunity to significantly reduce GHG emissions through generating more steam from biofuel and displacing natural gas consumption. PE Tech completed this project by providing Paper Excellence with valuable process data, a capital cost estimate, and identified potential opportunities which would reduce GHG emissions by over 32,000 tonnes annually.
