PE Tech was involved in the assessment, design, and implementation of an aging barge ramp as part of an upgrade to the unloading facility at a coastal pulp mill. The team provided a 3D scan of the existing barge and performed failure analysis to determine what caused the barge to fail. The team identified the root cause of the existing failure to be the ramp profile and impact loading. Using the 3D scan to model impact requirements and the ideal profile, PE Tech determined alternative specifications to address this issue during the design. PE Tech completed a mechanical and structural design package and issued the package for tender.
